Many residents are still asking about the planning notice from Walsall Council that landed through our letterboxes on 24 December 2013, informing us of an application submitted to them by Lapworth Architects on behalf of BCG Lakes, the ten new owners of Great Barr Hall. You may recall it included the construction of 59 new dwellings to fund the reconstruction of an enlarged Great Barr Hall into a 650 seated wedding and conference centre, all within the registered Historic Parkland and Green Belt. The rear of 38 of these dwellings would be positioned close to the wall along Chapel Lane and partially screened by a six foot boundary wall that was to enclose a gated community.
The full development proposals were only made known when we held our information session on 1 February 2014, at the War Memorial Hall in Great Barr, which was attended by Members of Parliament Tom Watson and Valerie Vaz, who were on hand to hear the views of more than 150 local residents.
As a result of objections by local residents and intervention by the Members of Parliament, further scrutiny by English Heritage, The Council for Protection of Rural England, Sandwell and Walsall Council and many other important consultees followed. This resulted in Walsall Council having to request a considerable amount of additional information from the architects. That was way back in April 2014 and we can confirm that since then the architect has not forwarded any relevant information to the Council as we monitor the progress of the application on a regular basis.
It has been a busy but rewarding year and we thank those of you who support the objection of this planning application, we will be sure to keep you informed should anything arise during 2015.
