Untrue rumours circulating that developers have withdrawn Great Barr Hall planning application

Local residents have recently been in touch with us via social media and our website regarding the current status of the planning application for Great Barr Hall, which was submitted back in December.

Contrary to a number of rumours circulating that the application has been withdrawn, we can confirm that the application for 59 new houses and the reconstruction of the Hall for use as a wedding/banqueting centre is still under consideration by Walsall planning officers.

The delay in determining this application is due in part to Lapworth Architects withdrawing the dredging of both lakes and the footbridge construction from the original application back in January this year, as the mandatory survey of the lakes had not been made.  The Council had also requested additional information, following serious concerns submitted by a number of statutory consultees.

As a result of this the architects, have informed the Council that they will be re-submitting a new application for the lakes element in September/October 2014 following a survey of both lakes in late summer. When the Council have received and validated the lakes application, the Council will issue notices allowing a further consultation period, during which time comments about this part of the application can be made and these will be added to the existing comments already received to date.

At this stage the Council will then consider all of the current applications together and prepare their report to the Planning Committee. In the meantime comments are still being submitted to the Council on the exsisting application as Lapworth’s continue to submit additional details about the scheme, most recently the car parking arrangements for 450 vehicles off Suttons Drive and adjacent to St Margaret’s Church car park (click here to see the plans) and between the Gothic Bridge and the access road to Netherhall.

Further information about the application progress can be made by contacting Walsall Council or visiting the other pages on our website. If you need help on how to object, click here.
